How to save money on flights to Paris

Many business and leisure travellers board flights to Paris, the capital of France and one of the largest cities in Europe, every year. It is a global culture and art hub with many international fashion companies based there. The city is also full of culture and history with attractions such as the Louvre Museum and the Palace of Versailles to the proximity of the city. It is located in the western Europe with flights to different parts of the world such as the Americas, the rest of Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia. Now that Covid restrictions have been eased there, we will see an increase in flights to Paris in the foreseeable future.

Booking a flight to Paris

Many of the tourists find their flights to Paris on search engines such as Skyscanner, Kayak and Momondo. How to save money on flights to Paris – by transiting at a cheaper airport*

The flight time to Paris can be long, especially if you are travelling from places like Asia or the Americas. Whether you are planning to fly on business class or economy class to Paris, the price depends on the airport you are flying from. That means you might be able to save money to fly from a different airport!

Business Class Example – Flight to Paris from Los Angeles (Saving: US$1,296)

I took a search on 18th July 2022 on Skyscanner and found that the cheapest business class flight costs US$4,349 from Wednesday 28th September to 9th October.

However, knowing that there might be cheaper tickets if I choose to fly from another airport, I performed a search on flights from Los Angeles to Oslo, business class for the same dates. The cheapest flight now costs $2,744 (with one transit each way, even fewer than the more expensive option we’ve just looked at).

Things to beware when buying a flight to Paris

A risk of the indirect options flying to Paris is that the first flight might get delayed and one might miss the next flight which would be expensive to rebook. Therefore, it is important to consider the terms and conditions related to cancellation of the travel agent or airline you are booking with, and consider buying travel insurance to cover the risks and your flights to and from Paris, perhaps including the transit locations too. It is also worth checking visa and Covid-related requirements at the transit airports that will be on your journey to Paris.

Airports in Paris

The main airports of Paris are the Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) and Orly (ORY), which are major international airports not just for Europe but for the Americas, the Middle East, Africa and Asia (probably more the case of CDG though). If you are flying from outside of Europe, there is a bigger chance you will be landing in the CDG Airport, though you should always check your flight ticket which airport you are landing at.
